Laser Hair Removal - Protocols

Preparation:

Before you arrive for each laser hair removal treatment, a few simple steps can make your experience as safe, comfortable and effective as possible. First, stay out of the sun as much as possible for at least three weeks as a recent suntan or sunburn can sensitize the area and can adversely affect the effectiveness of your laser hair removal treatment. Second, shave the area to be treated for. And third, the treatment area must be absolutely clear of any lotions, creams, makeup, sun block, perfume or any other chemicals or skincare products. These can react with the laser hair removal treatment to cause allergic reactions or reduce the effectiveness of your treatment by blocking the transmission of light.

The Procedure:

We ensure your safety and the effectiveness of your laser hair removal treatment by asking a set of basic questions about your medical status each time you come to American Laser Centers. Conditions such as any medications you may be taking, sun exposure, possible pregnancy, etc., can affect your safety, comfort or the effectiveness of your treatment.

Laser hair removal treatment sessions start when your American Laser Centers technician applies a cool, conducting gel to the treatment area to help ensure optimum skin contact with the treatment head for maximum effectiveness and proper cooling of the outer skin layer. Your technician will then systematically treat the area with the machine. The sensation has been described as a mild “hot pinch”, similar to being snapped with a small rubber band. For most laser hair removal clients, the mild pinching sensation goes away almost immediately.

Post-Treatment:

It is completely normal for your treated skin to appear pink or slightly red for a day or so after the laser hair removal treatment. On very rare occasions, pinkness, redness, minor blistering or persistent pain may occur. If they do, contact American Laser Centers for instructions.

It is also completely normal for hair to continue to grow after your laser hair removal treatment. Some of these hairs are being expelled from the newly disabled treated follicles, and some are from dormant follicles entering their active phase after the laser hair removal treatment. This normal cyclical nature of hair growth is why the full American Laser Centers Hair Removal Protocol consists of a normally recommended six laser hair removal treatments per area, scheduled seven to thirteen weeks apart.1 This is why any laser hair removal therapy that purports to be effective using fewer treatments is making impossible claims.

1 Depending on hair and skin color, some persons may require additional sessions.
